Sand Flat to Lover’s Leap

Sand Flat to Lover’s Leap

sugar-loafsugar-loafSugarloaf, from the east. Really the only landmark along this portion of the trail.
nice-trailnice-trailShort sections of the trail are very pleasant
TracksTracksMy tracks from the morning on my outbound leg. Chances are you will se no one along this stretch of trail.
xp-signpostxp-signpostThere are XP signs nailed to trees and wooden posts, such as this, along the trail. Not all are easy to spot or in good repair.
rockrockThe trail runs straight over the rock. Easy to navigate, but indicative of the traill
overgrowthovergrowthThis type of overgrowth was typical at many water crossings. The trail was easy to follow, even if hidden in the underbrush. But it was still slow and annoying.
trail-splittrail-splitFork in the road. Note the "XP" sign nailed to the tree off the singletrack to the left.
fork-with-signfork-with-signAnother fork in the trail. Unfortunately, no immediately apparent XP sign to tell you which trail to take.
johnsons-cutoffjohnsons-cutoffJohnson's Cutoff Marker, posted by the Trails west folks. There are a thirty of these from Carson City to Placerville.
trail-forktrail-forkOne of many spots where the trail leaves a perfectly good, reasonably flat road to pitch up a single track trail (note the "XP" sign to the left)
