Marysville

Marysville

GravelGravelA sample of the type of gravel road I’ve come across in the last few days. Not easy on the tires.
Pony-Express-signPony-Express-signPony Express route sign off the side of the road. These show up occasionally, but I have no idea who picks the site or why.
Ash-point-monumentAsh-point-monumentAsh Point Pony Express station marker. Sometimes this is all you get. Sometimes less!
Dirt-roadDirt-roadA pleasant stretch of dry dirt road. It’s slower going, but more floaty than gravel . . . Except when wet
Stream-crossingStream-crossingOne of the dozens (?) of streams I’ve crossed so far. Imagine getting a ox-drawn wagon down and up those banks. Sometimes, emigrants had to lower the wagons by rope.
Kansas-vistaKansas-vistaNew corn, prairie brown, meandering waterway, wispy clouds. Kansas.

River-bike-pathRiver-bike-pathThe route follows the Blue River Trail into Marysville from the north for about three miles. It’s a very pleasant end to what, for me, was a hard day.

About

Scott AlumbaughIn early March 2020, I decided to bikepack the length of the Pony Express Trail in Summer 2021, following the Pony Express Bikepacking Route, a nearly all off-road route created by Jan Bennett. You can learn more here >
